If you’re a person alive today you probably have been unable to escape the fact that escape rooms are becoming increasingly popular as a fun and challenging activity for groups of friends or family members.
But what exactly are they? And why are they such a popular activity? In this blog post, we’ll endeavor to assist you by answering these questions…
What are escape rooms?
Put simply – escape rooms are physical adventure games in which players are locked in a room and must use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles and escape within a set time limit, typically one hour. Escape rooms almost always have a specific theme or story, such as being trapped aboard a doomed pirate ship, or breaking into the lair of a supervillain.
Players must work together as a team to solve the puzzles and escape the room before time runs out. Escape rooms are perfect for those who enjoy being challenged and working together as a team. They’re also great for folks who appreciate film or theater sets and wish they could spend some time inside one. Or, were you the kid who always gravitated toward the “hands-on” museums? Well, escape rooms are perfect for you too.
At Clue Chase, we have four unique game themes. These are “Pirates of the Bermuda Triangle”, “Houdini’s Workshop”, “Moonshine Madness” and “Guardian of Gotham”. Each one of our games features a unique set and collection of themed puzzles that help to immerse you even further into the world of our games.
We have a heightened focus on immersion at Clue Chase. Most escape rooms will simply give you a quick rundown of the rules, then send you into your game. At Clue Chase, while we still have rules to review, we endeavor to make it more interesting.
We do this by taking on the character of “Clue Chase Labs”, a wayward time-travel laboratory. One of our lab coat-wearing scientists will welcome you as you enter our space, and from there you will be tossed into a world of time travel, adventure and discovery.
Our games also offer a unique opportunity for corporate team building exercises. Escape rooms allow teams that may not always work together directly the chance to meet with and interact with their colleagues in a fun and cooperative environment. One that has been specifically designed in order to foster communication and teamwork.
The benefits of escape rooms
Escape rooms offer many benefits, both for individuals and groups. For individuals, escape rooms provide a fun and challenging way to test your problem-solving skills. They also offer a unique opportunity to bond with friends or family members as you work together to solve the puzzles.
At Clue Chase, we take special care to ensure that each of our escape rooms contain a wide variety of puzzle types and challenge levels – so that regardless of the types of thinkers in your group, there should be something that challenges and engages everyone. Whether they’re a verbal thinker, abstract, or more logical and analytical – there will be challenges that appeal to them, and maybe, make them feel a bit like a genius.
For groups, escape rooms offer a great way to promote teamwork and communication. They are also perfect for corporate team building exercises. Escape rooms can help employees learn to work together more effectively and can even improve team morale. Working with your teammates to complete a difficult challenge in under an hour is a huge confidence boost, and since the design of many of our puzzles requires communication for success, they can even foster stronger interpersonal communication within your team.
How to create the perfect escape room experience
If you’re planning on visiting an escape room, there are a few things you can do to ensure you have the best possible experience.
First, be sure to choose an escape room that is suitable for your group. If you’re with a large group, be sure to choose a room that can accommodate everyone.
At Clue Chase our rooms are all designed for up to ten players for optimal game flow, but can still comfortably accommodate larger groups of up to 12 adults at a time. With four unique escape rooms, this means we can host groups as large as 48-50 players at the same time!
Our lobby is comfortable and spacious, and is a great place to enjoy some food or drinks after your game. The lobby is available to rent out on weekdays for interested parties. Unfortunately we cannot make it available on weekends due to the high amount of foot traffic on Saturdays and Sundays.
Make sure you arrive on time and are prepared to work as a team. The best escape rooms require teamwork and communication, so be sure everyone in your group is on the same page. If someone tends to be the strong quiet type, maybe partner them up with a talkative friend, so there’s someone to share with the group when they make an important discovery!
Finally, don’t forget to have fun! Escape rooms are supposed to be enjoyable, so make sure you relax and enjoy yourself.
