This is probably the best time in the game to split your team up. After about ten minutes of everyone searching the space, however, you’ll want to reconvene to go over everything you’ve found together. This is when the group can start piecing together seemingly disparate pieces of information to perhaps uncover the cohesive whole that makes up the puzzle.

If you skip the communication step you could end up with two people walking around with the answers to each other’s questions, but if you never talk it out, you’ll never know that.

Gather All the Items You’ve Used Already Together

When you are in escape room games, it can be helpful to collect all the pieces of puzzles that you have already used. This way, you will not lose any pieces and you will not have to search for them later on.

An escape room is a timed game, and you want to use all the time that you have to escape. If you spend time looking for pieces of puzzles that you have already used, it will take away from the time that you have to solve the rest of the puzzles.

In addition, if you put all the pieces of puzzles that you have already used together, it will be easier to see what you have left to do. This can help you solve the puzzle faster.

Show Up for the Escape Game On Time

Timeliness is important if you want to have the best time in an escape room. A typical escape room game run usually every hour and fifteen minutes to every hour and a half. This means that the escape room company likely doesn’t have a lot of leeway in their schedule to accommodate you with your full hour if you arrive late.

Just like any other appointment or form of live entertainment, your scheduled time is your start time, not your arrival time. It’s recommended by most escape room companies that you do your best to arrive at least 15 minutes early. This will give you plenty of time to get settled, it will give your room runner ample time to give you a proper, full introduction, meaning you’ll go into the room feeling prepared, not rushed.

If you’re very late you probably won’t even get to play for the full hour since there will be another game after yours- and you’ll want that full hour, trust us.

Pay Attention To Clues

Throughout an average escape game, you’ll receive several clues from your game masters. These clues are always specific to your group based on what you should be working on right now, or what you’re struggling with.

They’re never meant to distract you or to hamper your progress, they’re only meant to help. While you’re free to either request a reduced number of clues or to ignore clues if you so desire, we don’t recommend it.

Generally, clues are only dispatched if the group seems to need them, a team that is moving smoothly through the puzzles and making good time will not be receiving clues, so if you are, you probably need them, and following them will only help you.

Don’t Break Things

In escape rooms, as in life, sometimes the best solution is not the most obvious. This is especially true when it comes to finding clues and solving puzzles. Many people think that the quickest way to escape a room is by brute force- by breaking things. But this is often not the case. In fact, breaking things can often lead to more problems, and can actually slow you down in your escape.

There are many different types of rooms, but in most escape rooms, breaking objects will not help you solve the escape room puzzles and find the clues you need. In some cases, it can even make things more difficult. For example, if you break a vase in a game filled with porcelain figurines, all of the pieces will have to be cleaned up before you can continue playing. And if you’re playing a game where time is of the essence, every second counts- so wasting time cleaning up broken glass isn’t ideal.

In some escape rooms, such as those with electronic locks or timed challenges, breaking things can actually result in getting penalized. So instead of helping your team escape faster, you could be slowing them down

How Do you Cheat an Escape Room?

Well, ideally, you don’t.

Cheating at escape rooms can be difficult for a few reasons. First of all, if you’re caught, you can be penalized- either by losing time or by having to repair any damage you’ve done.
